Software as a Service (SaaS) is a delivery model for business software applications that allows customers to use the application over the Internet. SaaS fees are based upon access and use, rather than purchase and installation of the software, thereby reducing cost and complexity for organizations. The term SaaS evolved from and generally replaces earlier terms such as Application Service Provider (ASP) and On-demand and is applied specifically for applications that were developed to leverage Web technology.
